POSITION SUMMARY

As a growing regional accounting firm, Whitinger & Company is looking for an Accounting Manager to provide leadership in our Indianapolis area office. Workflow management and staff leadership is paramount in this role. The Accounting Manager reviews work requirements, allocates staff resources, assigns work, and provides project management leadership to ensure quality and timeliness. Anyone performing in this capacity must have exceptional communication skills that will allow for effective relationship building at all levels, have significant accounting knowledge to make sound business decisions, and have the ability to multi-task. This person will be relied upon to lead, develop, and mentor Staff and Senior Accountants.

OBJECTIVES

Technical Knowledge
• Advanced knowledge in theory and practice of accounting, auditing and tax procedures
• Expertise in federal, state and local tax laws
• Ability to create accurate work papers, tax returns and financial statements
• Knowledgeable of various accounting systems utilized by clients and ability to adapt work as required
• Advanced problem solving, research and analysis skills
• Ability to provide clients with quality consultancy services and recommendations
• Enthusiasm for work, especially the more advanced or technical projects
• Pursues professional development through regular CPE training

Leadership
• Responsible for leading, developing and mentoring assigned staff
• Ability to serve as a technical resource
• Ability to consistently model company core values
• Review final work of staff before delivery to Member/Owners
• Ability to communicate effectively – both in writing and orally
• Maintain necessary confidentiality with all client and firm information

Organization
• Project manage the distribution, completion and delivery of work
• Enhance work efficiency through delegation & prioritization
• Deliver project status reports as needed to assigning Member/Owner
• Plan, organize and allocate Staff resources to accomplish client goals
• Complete work independently or with a team while adhering to scheduled deadlines and time budgets

Client Development
• Communicates a professional outlook internally and in public
• Identifies client development opportunities with potential clients
• Identifies service and relationship enhancement opportunities with established clients
• Attains individual and team business development targets
• Provides leadership to civic, professional and trade organizations
• Represents the firm at networking events and community activities

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
• Bachelor's or graduate degree in accounting from an accredited college or university
• CPA certification is required
• Minimum of 7 years of public accounting experience
• Specialty designation or certification a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Expertise in the regulations, pronouncements and code of ethics regarding the accounting profession
• High aptitude for problem solving
• Advanced computer application skills
• Must be able to take initiative and formulate a course of action to accomplish goals
• Must be adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people and situations
